Réveille Coffee Co. -- The Best Cafe in San Francisco

Réveille Coffee Co. opened its second location in the Castro in February, 2014. I highly anticipated the grand opening and had very high expectations of the coffee and food after reading the raving reviews of their North Beach cafe. After weeks of patiently waiting, I stumbled in and ordered the coffee that changed my life--an Ethiopian Robot Mata prepared with a v60. Before that evening, I believed "the darker the roast, the better",  and had been a regular at Peet's and Philz; however, after this one cup of coffee, my outlook and attitude about coffee completely changed. I actually tasted the "watermelon and lime" notes that were displayed below the coffee. I skipped home with a smile on my face, resulting from not only the incredible coffee, but also, the knowledgable, welcoming, and unpretentious staff. From that evening forward, I have returned over 100 times, become friends with the staff, and still to this day, walk out happier than I was when I walked in.

The owners, brothers Chris and Tommy Newbury, picked the perfect location for their Castro cafe. Réveille offers both indoor and outdoor seating, free wifi, and great music always playing inside. Moreover, Réveille serves not only a great selection of Four Barrel coffee, but also fantastic food that never disappoints. I have sampled most of the menu and have been impressed every time.

Behind the counter, whether it's Gene always asking how you have been, Monika discussing her latest coffee discovery, or Jasper pouring 8 tier tulips on your cappuccino, there will always be a barista crafting every drink carefully and faultlessly.

Reveille is also a great place to buy coffee for home. There is always a selection of a four single origins as well as the Friendo Espresso Blend from Four Barrel; you really can't go wrong with Four Barrel coffee. Furthermore, you can purchase coffee equipment so that you can replicate--or attempt to--the great cup that you just drank at Reveille.

A simple, yet elegant La Marzocco adorns the countertop while providing consistently well-extracted shots of espresso.

Next time you're in San Francisco, you must stop at Reveille Coffee Co on 18th between Hartford and Castro; you will not be disappointed. And who knows... Reveille may also cause you to rethink your drink. Regardless, I can assure you that you will walk out with a smile on your face.
